On 3 October 2024, GMA held its 49th Annual Day and Annual Lecture. On this occasion, it gave away the Annual GMA Management Awards recognising and rewarding the best management talent.
As part of the 2024 Annual Management Awards, GMA also presented the GMA Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 to Mr Narayan Rajaram Bandekar, fondly known as Nanabab in Goan circles, the Chairman of the NRB Group.
Mr Bandekar is a multifaceted personality transcending the image of a quintessential Goan businessman, an accomplished entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and a lover of art and culture, respected for his sagacity, integrity and dignity by the Goans from all walks of life.
Born in 1942 in Vasco, he was schooled at Vasco and Lonavala before graduating in Science from Wadia College, Pune. He joined the family mining business at an early age. Under the tutelage of his illustrious father, Shri Rajaram Bandekar, he learnt the trade, showcasing the entrepreneur in him by modernising the mining operations, investing in modern machinery and equipment, increasing the efficiency of logistics operations through the purchase of barges and the construction of own jetties. He expanded the business’ horizons and became one of the first Goan mine owners to trade directly with Japanese firms and venture into new markets like Taiwan, Romania, and China.
After his father’s demise, he charted a new path for himself establishing the NRB Group. As its founder Chairman & Managing Director, he expanded the core mining business and diversified into new areas like civil construction, industrial products, hospitality, fitness, entertainment, wellness and pharma. He was one of the few Goan pioneers who ventured out of India, with an ultramodern 12 million USD pharma manufacturing facility in Zambia, inspiring young Goan entrepreneurs.
Nanabab has always provided inspirational leadership to the industry bodies he has been associated with, the Goa Mining Association, the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) and the Standing Committee for Ferrous Minerals and Industries.
GMA salutes Nanabab’s business accomplishments as well as his compassionate nature and is honoured to present him with the GMA Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 for his humane and pragmatic approach to management.
